Judith Stroud

 

Judith was born in England and her early years were spent in various parts of Africa.  Returning home to Britain, she graduated in Fine Art, painting and printmaking, at the West of England College of Art, Bristol. 

                                                                            

A career in teaching art helped inform and inspire wide-ranging ideas for her own work, which is now a full time occupation.  

                                                                 

Based in her studio in South Wales,  she draws and paints and often use collage and mixed media, but her interest in printmaking processes is key to the direction of her work. Her choice of subject is often dictated by her current printmaking preoccupation.  Intaglio and collagraph processes have always fascinated her. She also loves the painterly approach of monotype, as well as many relief processes such as wood engraving, Japanese wood block, and multi block lino cuts.      

                                                                          

Judith’s subject matter often returns to the natural world. Living in Wales, the landscape has a profound effect on her work. There is a constant recurrence of visual motifs and symbols associated with the mythic cycles of nature and life, such as the changing seasons, rebirth and renewal, decay and death.

 

Judith is a member of Swansea Print Workshop and Aberystwyth Printmakers and exhibits regularly with these groups. Her original prints are in many private and public collections.
